Fernandina Beach Interim City Manager Charlie George has a medical emergency that will take him away from the day-to-day responsibilities of running the city for an extended period of time.
"Interim City Manager/City Engineer Charles George, P. E. is stable and in good spirits following a health incident that occurred May 29. A medical procedure is slated to take place June 3; he and his medical team anticipate a full and complete recovery," the city stated in a press release.
"In furtherance of City business, Mr. George
designated Operations Director Jeremiah Glisson as the City’s signing authority. City staff is working diligently to ensure little to no interruption in services during his absence. Mr. George and his family wish to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to staff as well as the community-at-large for the outpouring of kindness and support."
George joined the city in November 2020 as city engineer. He was named deputy city manager in late 2021.
His first stint as interim city manager was in May, 2023 several months after the termination of City Manager Dale Martin. He served until September, 2023 when the city hired Ty Ross as city manager.
He was named interim city manager again following the resignation of City Manager Ross last December.
Prayers for a quick and complete recovery. Jeremiah will do a great job in the meantime.
