Our Congressman Aaron Bean won't show up for an in-person town hall with voters anywhere on Amelia Island. He's branded the two previous events as 'fake town halls' because they were organized by a former local Democratic Party official.
By refusing to participate, Bean is treating his constituents like pesky gnats instead of a priority.
If town hall political bias is Bean's issue, then the solution is simple: host your own town hall.
Congressman Bean certainly has the money and resources for such an event, and he should offer the real thing — open to everyone, no pre-screened questions, and no partisan filters.
Town halls are an important fabric of democracy. It's a chance for elected officials to hear and engage directly from the people they were elected to serve. Bean's lame excuse sends voters a definitive message: your questions don’t matter, your issues aren't his concern, and your voice isn’t worth his time.
His absence suggests Bean would rather mock the town hall process than face the voters.
Accountability isn’t optional in a democracy. It’s part of the job Bean accepted after his election.
Whatever the reason Bean is a no-show, dodging public town halls isn’t leadership. It’s obvious avoidance.
People are struggling with real issues — rising food and product costs, a non-elected billionaire cutting government programs and workers, healthcare access, threats to retirement plans and funds, and failing infrastructure challenges.
Voters deserve a congressman who shows up in person, listens, and answers — not just during election season or ribbon cutting ceremonies, but throughout his term.
So how about it Congressman Bean? It’s time to announce your own in-person event. Hold a 'real town hall.'
Congressman Bean needs to be remided that his "constituency" includes ALL tax-paying voters, in his distract, and not just the folks that voted for him. Bean is a public servant, payed for with taxes and ultimately answers to all taxpaying voters in his district.
