When do they shutdown the Shave Bridge? When winds exceed 39 MPH for one minute

Writer's picture: Mike LednovichMike Lednovich

There are currently no plans to close the Shave Bridge as Debby approaches.

However, if at any time winds reach 39 mph sustained (continuous for 1 minute), traffic will temporarily be stopped until the wind drops below 39 mph. Nassau County has officers monitoring wind speeds continuously. There is no schedule and no predetermined period for suspensions. All suspensions are unpredictable and temporary.

You can check the status of the bridge at Nassau County Emergency Management's page https://www.onenassau.com/
