The developer for a proposed motel located at the entrance of the Pirates Bay community is seeking approval from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
Plans for the Batten Motel call for five, three story buildings at 2202 Sadler Road. The project is opposite a townhouse development across the street on Ryan Road, the entrance to the Pirates Bay neighborhood.
According to documents submitted by Gillette & Associates to FDEP, the project description is "The proposed project consists of ten (10) motel rooms, a small commercial store, associated parking, stormwater management, access and utilities.
"This project will be constructed on a 0.93-acre parcel of land in Nassau County, Florida. The site will be served by two (2) hydraulically connected dry stormwater retention pond. Potable water and sanitary sewer to be provided by the City of Fernandina Beach and electricity to be provided by Florida Public Utilities."
The documents cite Amanda Batten as the owner of the property.
According to the plan drawings, buildings one through 4 are 3-story, with parking on the first floor, then sleeping quarters on the second and third floors. Building 5 is a retail/storage/motel building. The first floor will have 300 square feet of retail and 900 square feet of storage. The second and third floors will accommodate sleeping quarters.
Last November the city commission approved preliminary plat approval for 12 townhouses at Sadler Road and Ryan Road.
