Scott Mikelson was named Fernandina Beach's director of Parks and Recreation Tuesday at the city commission meeting.
Mikelson, a 23 year veteran of the Parks and Recreation Department, had served as deputy director for the past several years. He succeeds Catherine Vorrasi, who resigned the post in February after 18 months as director.
"I've been here 23 years. This city means a lot to me. I'm gonna work hard and I look forward to the future," Mikelson told the commissioners. "And we're going to continue to grow in Parks and Recreation."
Mikelson studied Recreastion and Leisure Services at Winona State Unversity.
Mayor Bradley Bean said of the appointment, "Mr. Mikelson, we're honored to have you. You're the right man for the job."
In making the announcement, Interim City Manager Charlie George said "We went through a long interview process, We vetted everybody out. The evaluation committee and myself unanimously supported him to become director."
Congratulations Scott. This is great news.
Good selection. Now, do something about the atrocious condition of the municipal golf course. A great civic asset but major embarrassment.
Good selection - the man appears to be qualified for the job.
Scott deserves this for all the best reasons!
A wonderful choice!
