Former Fernandina Beach Vice Mayor Len Kreger is aiming to return to the City Commission in the 2026 election.

City Clerk Caroline Best confirmed Wednesday that Kreger has officially filed to run for Seat 4, currently held by Mayor James Antun.

Kreger previously served seven years on the commission after first being elected to Seat 5 in 2015. He was re-elected in 2018 but was term-limited in 2022 under the city charter.

The charter allows him to run again in 2026.

During his time in office, Kreger served as vice mayor for six terms and ran unsuccessfully for mayor three times. A retired U.S. Marine with 24 years of service, he also spent six years on the Fernandina Beach Planning Advisory Board before his initial election. He currently serves on the city’s Board of Adjustment.

Mayor Antun has not yet announced whether he will seek re-election.
